Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

Antivirus 8 is a rogue anti-virus scanner that displays fake scan results, which simply are excuses for Antivirus 8 to demand a premium registration fee. Although Antivirus 8 claims to have an affiliation with Microsoft, malware experts quickly determined this claim to be fraudulent, and recommend removing Antivirus 8, like any scamware, as a potential security risk to your PC. Since many types of scamware use Trojan installers with other attack functions, Antivirus 8's removal should be handled by legitimate anti-malware products whenever possible.
Antivirus 8: the Logical Continuation of Scamware
Although fraudulent security software is a reasonably profitable industry for numerous persons, these scamware 'products' also necessitate continual updates to confuse and trick new victims into paying for old misleading practices. In some cases, these updates are primarily aesthetic, as can be seen in samples of Antivirus 8, a clone of Antivirus 7 and AV7. Malware experts determined that the latter are, themselves, spinoffs of the Win32/FakeXPA family of rogue system scanners, with minimal changes. Fortunately, Antivirus 8 has not shown itself to have any functions for downloading other threatening software, which is a known feature of that family.
However, even when observed by itself, Antivirus 8 may endanger PC users by displaying fake threat alerts that contain inaccurate information. Antivirus 8's pop-ups indicate that (randomly-chosen) files on your PC have been compromised, after which Antivirus 8 demands money in exchange for removing these infections. Antivirus 8's alerts may include imitation system scans similar to those of real anti-virus programs and may indicate the presence of high-level threats. Attempting to delete the 'infected' files indicated by Antivirus 8 may damage your system and is not recommended by malware experts.
Taking the Virus out of Your Supposed Anti-Virus
While not known for launching additional attacks that don't directly involve displaying fake information, Antivirus 8 is part of the classification of threats that may be responsible for changing security settings, blocking software and installing other PC threats. As a result of these risks, malware researchers advise removing Antivirus 8 as soon as you've identified Antivirus 8, regardless of the nature of its installation. Most anti-malware products of competent origin should be more than capable of deleting Antivirus 8 without any significant issues.
Scamware profits primarily off of the uninformed natures of its victims. Always use reputable security programs to double-check the results of ones whose results you have any reason to doubt, and never give money to software products that have failed to prove their value. If it's already past that point, you should consider contacting your credit card company or taking other steps that will let you prevent ill-minded persons from abusing any information that has been given to them under the misleading circumstances of an Antivirus 8-style hoax.
