Threat Metric
The following fields listed on the Threat Meter containing a specific value, are explained in detail below:
Threat Level: The threat level scale goes from 1 to 10 where 10 is the highest level of severity and 1 is the lowest level of severity. Each specific level is relative to the threat's consistent assessed behaviors collected from SpyHunter's risk assessment model.
Detection Count: The collective number of confirmed and suspected cases of a particular malware threat. The detection count is calculated from infected PCs retrieved from diagnostic and scan log reports generated by SpyHunter.
Volume Count: Similar to the detection count, the Volume Count is specifically based on the number of confirmed and suspected threats infecting systems on a daily basis. High volume counts usually represent a popular threat but may or may not have infected a large number of systems. High detection count threats could lay dormant and have a low volume count. Criteria for Volume Count is relative to a daily detection count.
Trend Path: The Trend Path, utilizing an up arrow, down arrow or equal symbol, represents the level of recent movement of a particular threat. Up arrows represent an increase, down arrows represent a decline and the equal symbol represent no change to a threat's recent movement.
% Impact (Last 7 Days): This demonstrates a 7-day period change in the frequency of a malware threat infecting PCs. The percentage impact correlates directly to the current Trend Path to determine a rise or decline in the percentage.

Trojan.Bitcoinminer is a Trojan that hijacks your PC's system resources for creating cryptocurrency, which it transfers to a threat actor's account. System performance problems and even hardware failure are possible symptoms of this infection, although Trojan.Bitcoinminer will not display a user interface and may conceal its installed components. Scan your PC with specialized anti-malware tools to remove Trojan.Bitcoinminer before it can cause any long-term harm.
Establishing a New Mine Inside Your Computer
The innovation of no-borders, all-digital cryptocurrency, while of benefit to some segments of the investment sector, also is proving problematic for some PC users who don't mind their hardware usage. Threat actors using other people's systems to 'mine,' or generate cryptocurrency automatically, is a recurring issue. In most infections, such as Trojan.Bitcoinminer, the symptoms only are indirect and may be overlooked by anyone not paying close attention.
Trojan.Bitcoinminer may bundle itself with other applications or with the help of other threats (such as Zlob) that the user encounters after downloading corrupted files or loading toxic website content. Although legitimate cryptocurrency-mining applications do exist, these applications provide visible interfaces for the user to control their settings and, if necessary, deactivate them. Unlike its legal equivalents, Trojan.Bitcoinminer runs as a background process with no GUI and may be injected into another memory process to prevent itself from being noticed in the Task Manager.
After compromising your PC, Trojan.Bitcoinminer runs continuously to generate Bitcoins or another cryptocurrency. Symptoms malware experts recommend staying alerted for include:
- Unusual CPU or network use percentages, especially from programs or processes that should have low system requirements.
- Overheating also may occur in various components, including your graphics card. Look up the manufacturer's specifications for safe temperature ranges to determine whether or not your hardware is too hot.
- Performance problems such as crashes or slow software response times.
Closing the Mine without a Permit
When installed, Trojan.Bitcoinminer and similar threats often operate without the recommended safety configurations that prevent them from overusing the PC's hardware. These infections can shorten the lifespan of your PC and cause hardware to fail permanently. Always be aware of typical resource values for basic operations on your computer and take appropriate steps to disable software that grants itself excessive leeway.
Malware experts can connect some Trojan.Bitcoinminer infections to the presence of adware and Potentially Unwanted Programs of various types, as well as some versions of scamware and fake system optimization products. They also note some security products experiencing difficulties with identifying this threat accurately. Update your anti-malware programs when asked to do so before scanning your computer to remove Trojan.Bitcoinminer, and related threats. Users may wish to reboot and undergo a second scan to verify that a third party isn't reinstalling the Trojan.
As long as cryptocurrency is a currency with even theoretical value, con artists will want to profit off of it. Ignoring what's happening 'behind the curtain' in your computer's essential systems is an invitation for Trojans like Trojan.Bitcoinminer to invite themselves inside.
Use SpyHunter to Detect and Remove PC Threats
If you are concerned that malware or PC threats similar to Trojan.Bitcoinminer may have infected your computer, we recommend you start an in-depth system scan with SpyHunter. SpyHunter is an advanced malware protection and remediation application that offers subscribers a comprehensive method for protecting PCs from malware, in addition to providing one-on-one technical support service.
* See Free Trial offer below. EULA and Privacy/Cookie Policy.
Why can't I open any program including SpyHunter? You may have a malware file running in memory that kills any programs that you try to launch on your PC. Tip: Download SpyHunter from a clean computer, copy it to a USB thumb drive, DVD or CD, then install it on the infected PC and run SpyHunter's malware scanner.
