Adware.Lop!rem
Adware.Lop!rem is an adware program and noted PC security threat that uses your system's resources to display advertisements, such as pop-ups, without your permission. Different variants of Adware.Lop!rem have been seen infecting computers since 2010, although many Adware.Lop!rem attacks have occurred in 2011. SpywareRemove.com research team has found that most Adware.Lop!rem files are stealthily distributed in bundles with criminal software on warez websites and through P2P distribution networks. Besides exposing you to potentially dangerous advertisement, Adware.Lop!rem may also create a security backdoor on your computer, and for these reasons it's recommended that you delete Adware.Lop!rem with an anti-malware application.
How Adware.Lop!rem Got to Your Computer and What Else Comes with It
Adware.Lop!rem has been seen in at least two variants, Adware.Lop!rem and Adware.Lop!rem.A, although both variants exhibit similar (and harmful) behavior. Many 2011-era Adware.Lop!rem infections appeared in European countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany, although even China hasn't been exempt from Adware.Lop!rem's advertisements.
SpywareRemove.com malware research team has traced most Adware.Lop!rem infections to the installation of criminal or pirated software, including key generators and malware kits like Zeus Builder. When in doubt, avoid visiting websites that involve such illegal software or widely-distributed programs from unofficial sources like P2P file-sharing servers.
Adware.Lop!rem infections stretch back to 2010, but due to recent reports of Adware.Lop!rem infections in 2011, keeping your security software updated is strongly advisable. Security software that isn't up-to-date for recent PC threats may be unable to find or remove Adware.Lop!rem.
Reasons Why Adware.Lop!rem Isn't an Infection to Underestimate
SpywareRemove.com malware research team has found that many, if not all Adware.Lop!rem infections are bundled with other malicious programs, including Trojan.ADH or Trojan.Win32.Refroso Trojans, password-stealing spyware like Trojan-PSW.Gampass or Infostealer.Gampass and other threats such as Packed.Vmpbad!gen1. Adware.Lop!rem itself will also:
- Display potentially harmful advertisements without your consent. These advertisements may use Flash or Java exploits to install additional unwanted and hostile programs onto your PC or try to redirect you to criminal websites.
- Create a serious security hole on your computer. In some cases, you may be able to detect Adware.Lop!rem's alterations by watching for changed network settings, especially with regards to ports. Other Adware.Lop!rem attacks may create automatic exceptions in your firewall or even disable the firewall and other security-related programs.
- Use up significant resources, including RAM, without any option to turn off Adware.Lop!rem and free the system resources. This can cause poor performance, particularly lag, stuttering, and general unresponsiveness in the interface of your PC.
As a potentially very dangerous threat to your computer's security, you should delete Adware.Lop!rem quickly, but also by using a high-quality anti-malware product whenever possible. Safe Mode or booting from an uninfected drive will let you stop Adware.Lop!rem from launching automatically; trying to remove Adware.Lop!rem while Adware.Lop!rem is still active should be considered only when other solutions have failed.
