Red Cross Antivirus

Posted: August 23, 2010

ScreenshotRed Cross Antivirus is a rogue anti-virus program that displays a fake icon on your system tray stating that your computer is infected with spyware. Red Cross Antivirus will use fake security messages to urge you to download their software and will prompt you into purchasing the full version of Red Cross Antivirus. Red Cross Antivirus may try to download itself by using drive-by download methods. Red Cross Antivirus will also launch on every Windows startup and may display excessive popup ads. Red Cross Antivirus may be difficult to remove manually because it has the ability to recreate itself.

I was not able to do step 1, ctrl-alt-del to get the task manager, because it, too, brings up the annoying little window to either ínstall heuristic module'or çontinue unprotected'. When you click the former, it asks you to purchase the software (probably there is no software) and if you click the latter all it does is closes the window. Cannot get task manager to come up. Windows Vista.

No 'rec cross' entry is found in the registry. Probably they are using a different name in the registry.
