'You Have Been Hacked' Email Scam
The strategies of online scammers evolve constantly, and nowadays they often rely on aggressive and fearmongering messages that aim to leave their target under the impression that their personal data has been collected, and that their devices have been compromised. This is the strategy seen in the 'You Have Been Hacked' email scam, which is growing in popularity among online criminals currently. The fraudulent email messages target random users, and they tell them that their devices have been hacked by using malicious software downloaded from an adult video website.
The criminals continue with their threats by saying that they have been able to record footage using the computer's microphone and camera and have a lot of footage recorded while the victim was browsing adult sites. They threaten to send it to their family, friends, and colleagues unless the victim pays a ransom fee of €600 via Bitcoin.
We assure you that the senders of the 'You Have Been Hacked' email scam are bluffing, and there is nothing to worry about. They have not infected your computer with malware, and they do not have any video or pictures of you. Paying them is not necessary – just delete the email received, and report the sender.
