WebApplookup
WebApplookup is a Potentially Unwanted Program (PUP) which has been causing some problems for macOS users in 2021. This application is spread online through software bundles, fake downloads, deceptive advertisements, and other misleading content. Users who end up installing it will not put the safety of their system in danger, but they may soon experience some unwanted changes – for example, having their searches redirected to Yahoo instead of to their favorite search page. Although the searches eventually lead to Yahoo Search, they may first redirect the user through several ad-ridden pages before reaching the final destination. This is often referred to as the 'Yahoo Redirect Virus.'
Trying to remove the WebApplookup app manually may not be an easy task because it tends to drop its files in multiple hidden directories, as well as to tamper with the default 'Launch Daemons' in order to grant itself persistence. If your macOS browser is behaving weirdly, then we advise checking for the presence of the WebApplookup or a similar program on your system. The best way to perform the check is to run a suitable macOS security scanner – apart from identifying dangerous malware, these scanners are also ideal for removing low-level threats like WebApplookup.
