TotalWipeOut Ransomware

Posted: August 24, 2018

The TotalWipeOut Ransomware, an encryption ransomware Trojan, changes the desktop background of the affected computers. The TotalWipeOut Ransomware has a hardcoded key and, thankfully, its data can be decrypted. The TotalWipeOut Ransomware's wallpaper contains no contact information or website specified so that it is unknown how its developers intend to be in contact with their victims.

It would appear that the TotalWipeOut Ransomware was likely designed and meant to be a data wiper, as it doesn't list any email and BitMessage contacts, but so far it seems unfinished in its current state.

The TotalWipeOut Ransomware appears to ask for a payment of 1 Monero (XMR), which is roughly 89 USD or 77 EUR at this time. Interestingly, the TotalWipeOut Ransomware also features a ransom note in 9 different languages, specifically English, Indonesian, Russian, Hindi, Japanese, Spanish, Punjabi, Turkish and Portuguese. This shows a broad spectrum of countries and nationalities the ransomware may be targeting. Fortunately, it seems that, at this time, there is a possible solution to solving its encryption thanks to the hardcoded key. It remains to be seen whether coming versions of the TotalWipeOut ransomware may change and become more effective or not. While this not happens, users are advised to avoid any payments if contact details appear in future versions or through other means

There is a ransom note named '_______READ_FOR_YOUR_FILES_______.txt,' but it lacks contact information
