Skymap Ransomware
The Skymap Ransomware is a file-locker that you do not want to mee certainly. It has the ability to cause potentially irreversible damage to your files, and prevent you from exploring the contents of important images, documents, videos, archives, databases, and other common file formats swiftly. Of course, the purpose of the ransomware is to extort the victims for money, hence why the Skymap Ransomware drops the ransom message ‘_readme.txt,’ which urges the victim to contact the attackers and purchase a decryption tool. Needless to say, you should not trust the perpetrators, because you may end up getting tricked even if you pay them.
The authors of the Skymap Ransomware use the email gorentos@bitmessage.ch for contact, and they want to use Bitcoin to complete the payment. As mentioned, you should decline to cooperate with them and take advantage of legitimate data recovery options.
The first thing to do if the Skymap Ransomware has taken your files hostage is to use the services of an anti-virus scanner to identify and remove the harmful files immediately. When you complete this task, you can try alternative data recovery options or restore your files from a backup. Do not forget that since the Skymap Ransomware is based on the STOP Ransomware project, there is no free decryptor available.
