Shitcoin Wallet

Cybercriminals often attempt to disguise their threatening applications as legitimate programs. Such is the case with the Shitcoin Wallet, a piece of software that can work either as a standalone application or an extension for the Google Chrome Web browser. The purpose of the Shitcoin Wallet is to help users manage their Ethereum (ETH) funds, as well as any ERC20 tokens they may have access to. All of its features appear to be legitimate, and the application has gathered nearly 1,000 installs from the Google Chrome Store. However, cybersecurity researchers state that Shitcoin Wallet may be performing unwanted tasks in the background – it is capable of injecting an info-stealing JavaScript code in five popular cryptocurrency exchanges, and it also can exfiltrate the user's information to a remote command and control server. Needless to say, such shady behavior is likely to be linked to fraudulent activity, and you should uninstall the Shitcoin Wallet extension immediately.

Bogus Chrome Extensions Collects Login Credentials for Crypto-Currency Exchanges

Users who install the Google Chrome extension 'Shitcoin Wallet' may be prompted to allow the extension to inject JavaScript in 77 websites. However, tests show that the extension only will do this on five websites that are popular among crypto-currency traders – the purpose of this JavaScript code is to exfiltrate the user's login credentials, as well as to collect any private keys they might have stored in their dashboard.

As for the standalone version of the Shitcoin Wallet, some of its users have left comments stating that it infected their computers with ransomware. However, these statements are yet to be confirmed – even if Shitcoin Wallet's application is not a file-locker, we assure you that you should not install it.

Cryptocurrency users and traders are among the primary targets of cybercriminals. If you belong in either of these groups, then you should take your online security more seriously and the required measures to keep your investments safe:

  • Do not download applications from non-trustworthy sources.
  • Always check application reviews and ratings to make sure that you will not download a shady application like the Shitcoin Wallet.
  • Keep your computer protected by a trustworthy anti-malware application.
