Minotaur Ransomware

Posted: October 16, 2018

The Minotaur Ransomware is a file-locker, which can encrypt a broad range of files on the victim’s computer swiftly, and then offer to provide them with a decryptor in exchange for 0.125 Bitcoins. This behavior is typical for file-encryption Trojans, and you must remember that you should never try to negotiate with the cybercrooks behind the attack since there is a significant risk that you will end up getting extorted in the end.

The corrupted executable file, which initializes the Minotaur Ransomware, is likely to be propagated via fraudulent e-mail attachments, which are usually accompanied by an e-mail message claiming to come from a reputable company or organization when, in reality, it has been produced by the authors of the Minotaur Ransomware. If a user gets tricked into downloading and executing the corrupted attachment, they might set off the Minotaur Ransomware’s attack unknowingly and, unfortunately, the consequences of this event are likely to be very dire.

When the Minotaur Ransomware encrypts a file, it will change its name by including the ‘.Lock’ extension. When the file-encryption stage is complete, the file-locker may drop a ransom note, which contains the payment details, contact information, and other instructions that the attackers supply. According to the message in the file ‘How to Decrypt Files.tx,’ the victims will need to contact the perpetrators of the attack by sending a message to minotaur@420blaze.it. Their message also should include the unique victim ID found in the ransom note and, in return, they should receive a Bitcoin wallet address where the 0.125 BTC should be sent to.

We advise you not to consider paying the authors of the Minotaur Ransomware any money, because they do not provide any credible proof that they are trustworthy are in possession of a working decryptor. The suggestion to the users affected by the Minotaur Ransomware’s attack is to run a trustworthy ant-virus tool immediately, which should help them eradicate all corrupted files linked to this file-locker. Unfortunately, the removal of the Minotaur Ransomware is only a partial solution, and the victims will still need to look for alternative ways to recover their files. The only guaranteed method to restore all data corrupted by the Minotaur Ransomware is to use a safe backup. However, if a backup is not available, then the victims might need to resort to using alternative data recovery software and methods.
