LIZARD Ransomware
The LIZARD Ransomware is a threatening application that will cause a lot of trouble if it reaches your computer. When this file-locker is launched, it will scan the hard-drive for specific files and then encrypt their contents. The LIZARD Ransomware uses the same file-locking mechanism as the LANDSLIDE Ransomware discovered in 2020, and, unfortunately, neither of these are decryptable for free. Victims of the LIZARD Ransomware will be able to notice the locked files because of the way this threat changes their names – '[DeathSpicy@yandex.ru][id=<VICTIM ID>]<ORIGINAL FILENAME>.LIZARD.'
The LIZARD Ransomware may be spread online with the use of typical malware propagation channels and tricks – pirated software and media, game cracks, Windows activators, fake downloads, pornographic videos, torrent trackers, etc. You should avoid visiting shady websites and never download unknown files. In addition to this, it is recommended to invest in reputable and regularly updated anti-virus software.
The LIZARD Ransomware usually ends its attack by dropping the ransom notes '#ReadThis.HTA' and '#ReadThis.TXT.' According to these files, victims of the attack can submit one file (less than 200KB in size) for free decryption by messaging deathspicy@yandex.ru or deathspicy@tutanota.com. However, the criminals warn their victims that their data's full recovery will not be free, and they will need to send money through Bitcoin.
You should not trust LIZARD Ransomware's authors because it will be very easy for them to trick you if you decide to pay them. Instead of trying to purchase shady software from cybercriminals, you should use an anti-malware tool to remove the threatening software. After this, try to restore files from a backup or look into other popular data recovery options and tools.
