IGAMI Ransomware

Posted: May 21, 2019

The IGAMI Ransomware is a nefarious file-locker that may catch many people by surprise due to its ability to sneak onto unprotected systems and then encrypt the files stored on the silently. The file formats that this locker targets are very diverse – ranging from common image and document files types to more obscure file formats. Whenever a file is locked, the IGAMI Ransomware will label its name by adding the ‘.IGAMI’ extension.

Just like nearly all other ransomware operators, the crooks behind the IGAMI Ransomware project are after the money of their victims, and they offer a paid decryption service. The full terms and conditions regarding this offer are found in the ransom note ‘how_to_back_files.html,’ which is usually placed on the victim’s desktop when the attack is complete.

However, the offer made by the IGAMI Ransomware’s authors it is not an acceptable one – they demand hundreds of dollars be paid via Bitcoin, and offer no reliable guarantee that they will fulfill their part of the deal. Remember that sending money to cybercriminals is a very risky action since you may not get anything in return. Apart from the payment instructions, the ransom note also includes the addresses, which can be used to contact the perpetrators – firstouch@qq.com and firstouch@cock.li.

If the IGAMI Ransomware has taken your files hostage, then you should ignore the instructions of the attackers, and use a reputable anti-malware scanner to eliminate the harmful program. However, the removal of the file-locker will not help you get your files back, and you will need to resort to alternative file recovery options.
