'Facebook Lottery' Email Scam
Free gifts and prizes are common tricks that online con artists use to get their targets involved in online tactics. Often, the fraudulent offers are promoted via aggressive pop-ups and advertisements, but the criminals behind the 'Facebook Lottery' Email scam have adopted a different approach. They approach their targets via an email message claiming to come from the 'Facebook Lottery Team' – an entity that does not exist. According to the message, the recipient is one of the three lucky winners, who are offered to claim a prize of $5,000,000. Allegedly, this comes from an annual Facebook lottery event – of course, a quick online search will show you that such a thing does not exist.
Users are then told to contact 'Mr. David Wehner' (davidwehhnr30@gmail.com) a part of the Facebook lottery team supposedly. We assure you that you should not send a message to this address – it is operated by the tricksters, and they will probably ask you for personal information that you should not provide. The end-goal of these people is to take your money – they may do this by telling you that you need to pay a processing fee to claim your prize. Often, this may end up costing you a few hundred dollars, which you will not be able to get back.
If you receive a copy of the 'Facebook Lottery' Email scam in your inbox, you should remember that the prize is not real, and you should not trust a word seen in the message. The best thing to do is to report the sender for spam and then delete the message.
