'Coronavirus' Email Virus
The 'Coronavirus' Email Virus is a new phishing scheme that works by sending out thousands of email messages that claim to have been crafted by the World Health Organization (WHO.) The messages claim to include a valuable document that reveals some of the safety measures that can help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. While it is a great idea to make yourself familiar with the hygienic and safety tips to diminish the spread of this disease, it is important to note that you can find tons of helpful resources from reputable sources. The 'Coronavirus' Email is a fake one, and its goal is to convince you to download a file attachment that may hold a threatening virus such as Agent Tesla, Emotet, FormBook or the Crimson Rat.
If you have got one of these fake messages, but did not download any of the attached files, then you have nothing to worry about. The hackers are unlikely to select their targets carefully and, instead, they are relying on mass email lists to send as many phishing messages as possible. If, however, you have downloaded a file related to the 'Coronavirus' Email Virus, then you should run an anti-malware application immediately and perform a full system scan.
