ByteLocker Ransomware
The ByteLocker Ransomware is a piece of malware whose authors seem to have put in some effort to make it look more polished and professional. Thankfully, the reality is entirely different - ByteLocker Ransomware's code is copied off of the HiddenTear project. This means that it uses a flawed file-encryption routine, which is very likely to be reversible with the use of the free HiddenTear decryptor. The availability of a free decryption option is undoubtedly great news, but you should still take appropriate security measures to protect your system and files from threats of this sort. The next ransomware you encounter may not be decryptable, and recovering from its attack will be next to impossible.
The ByteLocker Ransomware will lock many important files and then display a ransom note containing a message from the criminals. Surprisingly, they do not offer a recovery option – they ask the victim to enter a password but do not provide it, nor do they leave any contact details. It seems that the ByteLocker Ransomware is meant to be a mean joke that will leave its victims in a somewhat helpless situation.
Users whose data was locked by the ByteLocker Ransomware should run an anti-virus tool to disrupt the attack immediately. This step will eradicate the ransomware's files and prevent them from causing more damage. Once this is taken care of, users can run the 'HiddenTear' decryptor, displaying data recovery instructions.
