Not Playing Fair: Lulzsec Hackers Infiltrate Nintendo Server in Their Latest Cyber-Onslaught

Posted: June 8, 2011

The Lulzsec group of hackers responsible for hacking PBS and Sony, also known as The Lulz Boat, have hacked a U.S. Nintendo server recently.

In today's day and age with massive amounts of personal user data stored on large networks, we all have to wonder what happens in the event that a hacker compromises one of these data centers. In the recent events we have found out just that as the hacker group Lulzsec first attacked the PBS website to post a fake story about Tupac Shukur being alive and then infiltrated a Sony Pictures website all to gather user data. The latest attack from this ambitious hacker group targeted a U.S. based Nintendo server. Luckily, unlike the Sony attack, the Nintendo event did not result in the hackers walking away with user information and posting it to a website available for anyone to pilfer.

Experts believe that the Lulzsec hacker group attacked a U.S. based Nintendo server to only add to their list of 'accomplished hacks'. The Lulzsec group also makes it very clear to their intentions when they attack networks or servers such as in the Nintendo incident, they post on Twitter:

"Re: Nintendo, we just got a config file and made it clear that we didn't mean any harm. Nintendo had already fixed it anyway. <3 them,"

It is rather clear that the Lulzsec group has some form of unadulterated 'power' to virtually hack, or attempt to hack, whatever they want. They have chosen to compromise resources belonging to networks or companies that they simply do not like. So far this group has caused a lot of havoc for mainly Sony, who has been trying to recover from their previous hacking debacle that forced them to shut down the PlayStation network which allowed millions of gamers the ability to play online games.

So far, in the past 3 weeks, we have seen the Lulzsec group in action. We will patently wait to see what this group of tenacious hackers will bring upon some network or website over the next weekend. Computer security researchers can always attempt to stay abreast of the latest happenings at Lulzsec via their often updated official website (lulzsecurity.com). They are not shy about letting the world know what they are up to or have recently conquered.
